When I first heard Wafia’s new EP “Good Things,” I felt the need to get up out of my seat to dance. We’re living in dark and divided times, but a good song can fill you up and remind you — as the song says — that there are still “good things going on.”

Wafia Al-Rikabi (professionally known as Wafia) has a voice with magic in it — without a doubt. Her EP “Good Things” is out now and I’m SO thrilled we got the chance to ask to talk to her about music, mental health, and relationships. Check out our conversation below!

Congratulations on releasing your EP, “Good Things,” on August 21st! What was the process of creating this EP like for you?

It was very rewarding putting this EP together with so many people that I love. Everyone I work with has become a friend through the process of making this record and that just makes every aspect of this so fun to tackle.

Releasing any creative expression into the world can be vulnerable. How did it feel sending “Good Things" out into the world and sharing something so close to your heart?

It’s very relieving to let go of work and not be able to tinker with it again. It allows me to move on and focus on the next!

“Good Things” weaves in some really emotional, powerful themes like love, loss, heartbreak, healing, and friendship. What are some of the most valuable tools you’ve learned in regard to relationships?

Making boundaries! Then sticking to them. It can be hard but it only best serves you and the relationship you’re in.

Taking care of our mental health is more important than ever. What are a few of your favorite practices for caring for your mental health and emotional wellbeing?

I’ve been keeping a physical journal for almost a year and that’s been very cathartic for getting my emotions out onto a page as well as speaking to my therapist regularly. My mental health also suffers when I don’t care for my physical health and I find that to be the hardest cycle to step out of.

Every day on Womaze, we send out daily “Push Motivations,” which are messages of love and support. What’s one message you think the world needs to hear right now?

I think everyone needs to practice patience and compassion with themselves, especially in a time like this.
